Tax Advisor Results Evidence Checklist: Projections, Deductions and Outcomes
A tax planning example can be useful without proving a result that will apply to you. This AE-owned checklist helps distinguish what a published claim actually establishes.
Identify the type of evidence
Determine whether the example is hypothetical, a composite scenario, a client testimonial or a documented engagement. Read the description beside the headline. A fictional illustration should not be treated as proof that a real client achieved the stated result.
Separate the financial measures
Look for a clear distinction between a deduction, a projected tax change and a realized outcome. Ask which tax years and jurisdictions are included. A timing benefit needs a holding-period and future-tax discussion rather than a comparison of one year alone.
Look for costs and assumptions
Check whether fees, implementation expense and the baseline alternative are included. Identify assumptions about income, tax rates, participation, loss usability and later distributions or sale. A number without its assumptions cannot be meaningfully applied to another taxpayer.
Ask a fair follow-up question
Ask what was proposed, what was implemented and what was verified. Seek evidence within privacy and consent limits. Do not request another client's confidential return. The useful question is whether the provider can explain its methodology and your specific decision.
Printable preparation worksheet
Use a private working copy to record the document location, outstanding question and person responsible for completing each item. These blank fields do not submit or store information online. Keep sensitive data in your secure records.
| Record or question | Document location or missing item | Owner and follow-up date |

| Fees and baseline alternative | ________________ | ________________ |
| Implemented and verified status | ________________ | ________________ |
Before you request advice
Mark unresolved items clearly and explain any deadline that may affect the review. Ask for an individualized conclusion and a written work scope before relying on a recommendation. A completed preparation worksheet is evidence organization, not approval of a tax position.
